I have so many things that I’m working on right now, and all of them are long and involved.

And I can’t decide what to focus on to finish. To the point that I barely got anything done yesterday, since I was skimming through like five different fics. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE, BECAUSE I WANT TO WRITE EVERYTHING.

Help why can’t I make decisions :c

I have this exact same problem right now.  *hugs* You’re not alone!!!

Confidence Lost & last night's White Collar season finale

Last night, when I watched the season finale of White Collar, I saw the scene of Neal leaping across from the roof of one tram to the other while both were in mid-air above the water like it was practically nothing…

First thought in my mind was “Good lord!  How can you NOT be an ex-Robin in canon?!??!?!!”

More Mockingbird!verse stuffs... the university years

Since I wrote and posted a recent head!canon list about Mockingbird!verse, I’ve got this vision in my head about the university years in Europe with Tim and the girls.

When Tim decided to go to university at Cambridge, the girls closest to him and who’d been his strongest support system (save for Dick) decided as a group to follow him there.  The trio was made of Steph, Cass (Cain) and Tam.

Bruce, without hesitation and without taking “no” for an answer from anyone, paid for everyone’s tuition.

(Lucius almost convinced Bruce not to pay for Tam’s education, but a well-placed glare from and a smack up side the back of his head from Mrs. Fox silenced him before he could refuse Bruce’s offer.  They still have one more son to put through college in a few years.)

Steph was a music major… Tam majored in linguistics… Cass decided not to go to university (her dyslexia makes it difficult to focus on the work required for school).  Instead, she took the opportunity to experience living and working in England to develop a solid civilian persona/secret identity.

While Tim lives by himself in England, the girls end up living together with Beryl (Squire) in a large loft.  The four of them become close friends and would end up working together to keep London free of crime.

(Tam would manage the command center and act as their version of “Oracle” while the other three were on patrol. Tim helped Tam get started and showed her how to get information and manage the others so they could fight crime more effectively… This, in small part, gave Tim the first small spark of inspiration towards creating his own Secret Six group and managing them effectively from afar.)

The four girls became lifelong best friends.  This essentially the birth of the second generation of Birds of Prey, though they made frequent references to Charlie’s Angels, the Three Musketeers, and Powerpuff Girls during some of their adventures.

Initially, Beryl was out of the loop regarding Tim.  She noticed the change in him, and how the others behaved around him.  How they’d be supportive, but avoid all physical contact with him.  She didn’t understand it, and no one would tell her anything regarding it.

Then, one day, there was a situation involving Tim and a female stalker obsessed with him as a Wayne.  The stalker relentlessly pursued him, eventually leading Tim into having an acute emotional break.  While Cass took care of the stalker and got her sent to prison, Beryl learned of what Tim had suffered from Tam and Steph.  Once she understood what had happened, Beryl was able to help Tim better as well.

Unknown to everyone else, she’d been raped herself when she was a child.  She understands that aspect of what Tim suffered better than the others.  That ends up helping him a great deal in the long run.

During his years at Cambridge, Tim did not lack for people who cared about him and who wanted to help him though the trauma he’d been through.  Between the girls, Dick, and Alfred, he was able to piece himself back together and get back to living a normal life…

…at least in outward appearances.

Random Mockingbird!verse head canons to get creative juices flowing...
  • After “retiring”, during his winter breaks between years at university, instead of heading home to Gotham, Tim would fly down to New Zealand and surf on the beaches there.  At first it was just an excuse to stay away from the States during the holiday season.  Turns out, he enjoys surfing and has become an accomplished surfer.  He also spends at least two weeks of summer break a year in Hawaii.  Conner has no clue that Tim summers in Hawaii.
  • Tim has not set foot in Gotham since he was eighteen.  Only a request from Alfred would get him to return to that city of his own free will, though the old man has refused EVERYONE who’s asked him to do so.  Bruce and Dick only finally stopped asking Alfred a year ago.
  • Tim’s become very good at cooking.  Alfred’s actually entrusted a number of personal recipes to him.  So, when eventually Alfred dies, the only person who can replicate any of his pastries/meals will be Tim.
  • Donna Troy’s first marriage happened when she was 19.  Her husband, Terry Long, was just an ordinary human.  Together they had a son, Robert, a year later.
  • Donna’s marriage suffered because Terry had a severe inferiority complex regarding his wife as both an Amazon princess and a powerful, famous vigilante.  He became emotionally abusive to her out of jealousy and bitterness.  After being married for three years, they filed for divorce and planned to share joint custody of their son. Before the divorce is finalized, though, Terry and Robert are killed in a car accident.
  • The car accident was exactly that.  An accident.  Terry was driving Robert to preschool.  A person who was driving in the opposite direction in the lane next to theirs was coming off of a graveyard shift and fell asleep at the wheel.  Their car veered sharply into the oncoming lane of traffic.  Terry had no time to react.  He died at the scene.  Robert died at the hospital a day later from his injuries.
  • Losing Robert like that devastated Donna.  She secluded herself for a whole year in Themyscira.  She changed from her red Wonder Girl outfit to the black, star-studded Troia one when she returned to work out of grief.
  • The emotional abuse Donna received from Terry colored her view of most men for the worst, especially mortal men.  There are exceptions, of course, among the men she grew up with and view as brothers.  She can be friends with men.  However, when anyone shows interest in her for dating or romantically, she either backs off or lashes out.
  • She also treats men who are known or seen to be abusing women, either physically or emotionally, very harshly.  In her first year returning to work as Troia, she put several of those kinds of men in the hospital.
  • Receiving Tim’s daughter was the best thing that could’ve happened to Donna.  She semi-retired from working as Troia until the little girl turned five just so she could spend all her time being a full-time mom on Themyscira.
  • Everyone else, outside of the Bat-family and Donna, thinks that the girl was just an orphan that she found and adopted on her own.  Not even Diana (Wonder Woman) knows that the girl is Tim’s daughter.
  • No one outside of the Bat-family, certain members of Ra’s al Ghul’s closest inner circle, and Donna knows that Tim ever had a child.
  • Tim leaned heavily on Steph, Cass, and Tam for support in the year after giving up his daughter.  They even went so far as to go to university with him in England.  Steph, Cass, Tam, and Beryl (Squire) shared a loft together.
  • Those were interesting few years in Europe…
  • The situation surrounding Tim’s rape and his daughter effectively killed any potential for a lasting romantic relationship between Tim and Tam.  However, they remain extremely close friends (as close as Dick and Donna are to one another).
  • Tim introduced Tam to the man who would become her future husband (one Mr. Virgil Hawkins).
  • The reason Tim has been estranged from Bruce is [CLASSIFIED].
  • It happened in England, during his second year in university.
  • No one else knows about this event except for Jason Todd.
  • Jason knows some of the secrets that Tim is keeping from the majority of his family.
  • In exchange for Jason’s help, Tim gives him access to MoneySpider/Lonnie as an information broker.

That’s all I have for now.  I had to write something out.  I’m working on the next chapter, but because of real-life stress I haven’t been able to finish it.  It’s in the works.

Twine: a tool for creating interactive stories → gimcrackd.com

afewnovelideas:

Was looking for software specifically to help me in writing a hypertext story that I’ve had in the works for the better part of a year.  Found this today.  It’s a free program called Twine.  I haven’t tried it out yet, since I’m still at work and can’t install it on this computer.  However, as soon as I get home, once my daughters are asleep and if my husband will be preoccupied with playing on the Xbox, I’ll be trying it out.

If it works as well as it seems from what I’ve read on the website, I’ll be so thrilled!

Original Flash Fiction: With Regret, Without Apology

Excerpt:

When she buried her face in her hands, looking small, weak, wounded, and vulnerable, I felt a reflexive desire to apologize and comfort her. I loved her, after all, and had never meant to hurt her.

There was just one problem…

Update

I feel that I need to offer apologies to those of you waiting for fic requests from over the weekend.

I’ve had some real-life financial issues practically explode in my face this week, and I’ve been scrambling around in perpetual damage control mode to try and make ends meet.  Even though I got paid today and the money is in the bank, I’m still not even sure if I’ll have enough for groceries for the next two weeks.

Things are extremely stressful right now, and my writing has suffered greatly for it.

I’ll start posting things again when I can.  In the mean time, I’m sorry for those of you still waiting.

Thanks for your patience.

I got an idea for an original short story.  A germ of an idea, really.

It’s about a vampiric mermaid who preys on lonely women.

However, instead of having a fish tail, she’s got octopus tentacles for the lower half of her body.  Her markings are like that of the poisonous blue ring octopus.

I got several submissions from my prompt request.  I’ll be working on them over the next few days. (RL suddenly got busy so I’ll be spreading them out over the next couple of days.)

Thank you everyone who sent stuff in.

Fic Prompt Request

Hello!

So, I don’t know if you’ve seen any of the sneak peaks for the coming White Collar episode, but they mention a nine-year-old Neal stopping by a pool hall on his way home from school in St. Louis. It sounds like he was already a hustler at that age. You could maybe do a small something about this if it tickles your fancy?

I also just have to mention that you are hands down my favorite fanfiction author ever, and I wish you the best of luck in getting published.

Cheers!

Tigrislupa

Thank you for the prompt!  I’ll think about it tonight and try to have something to share tomorrow.

Fic Prompt Requests

I’ve hit a bit of writer’s block with the projects I’m working on.  I need a break.

Does anyone want a drabble written for them?  Please leave a prompt request in my ask box.

Here are the fandoms I can write for:

  • DC Universe
  • White Collar
  • Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, X, XII, Tactics
  • Full Metal Alchemist
  • Warehouse 13
  • Weiß Kreuz
  • Silent Hill

If you have a fandom that is not on the list, but you’d like to see me try and write, feel free to suggest it.  I may know it and have just forgotten.

Please send me your requests and I’ll be more than happy to try and fill them!

EDIT:  Just remembered that Tumblr is a bitch at times for eating messages.  If you don’t trust Tumblr either to deliver the request, then feel free to e-mail me at hourglassthorne @ gmail . com (sans spaces of course)

Scribophile: An Online Writing Group

Scribophile.com

If you’re a writer who needs someone to beta your rough/first/second drafts, but you don’t want to rely on friends or family to read your unpolished works, then this is a writing group for you.

Scribophile is an online writing community where you can post up your rough works for constructive critiques and comments in return for leaving your own critiques and comments on the works of others.

When you first join, you cannot post a piece of your own until you review several pieces written by others and gain “karma points”.  Once you’ve acquired enough points, you spend them to post your work for review.

Your are pretty much guaranteed at least three detailed (long) reviews.  Scribophile has a policy where if a piece has not gotten any reviews after a set amount of time, it gets put in a “spotlight” review section.  The story then remains in the spotlight section until it receives at least three long/detailed reviews.  Readers are also encouraged to review these “spotlight” pieces because doing so gains them more karma points.

There is a free version as well as a premium version of Scribophile.  While there are definite benefits to being a premium member, the free version works just fine if you’re a budding writer needing constructive criticism to polish the stories you’re working on.

If this kind of community appeals to you, then by all means go and sign up.  Once there, if you’d like to follow my own works, you can find me under the handle of C.R. Scott.

Writer's Block a Myth? → writingishardwork.wordpress.com

Today, on my WordPress blog, I posted up a link to an article I shared here on Tumblr weeks ago, regarding ten forms of writer’s block and how to combat them

(A wonderful article I found on io9.com, btw.  I suggest everyone read it.)

Anyways, one of the comments I got on my blog was from a guy who’d written an article last December calling writer’s block a “myth”.

While I certainly don’t agree with all his views on this matter, I do have to concede he made some interesting points.

What do you think?

Polishing up my WordPress writing blog... Getting inspired for something else?

I’ve been working on a new version of my writing blog at WordPress.com.  Fear not, I’m not abandoning Tumblr.  I just wanted a separate, but similar writing blog that allowed me more organizational control over what I posted.

You can find it here:

By C.R. Scott

I’ve actually been enjoying figuring out how WordPress works, especially with themes.

I’m actually extremely tempted to create a separate community blog on WordPress just for the sole purpose of being a DCU fanfiction webzine.  Invite other writers to share their completed works?  Post up stories that span multiple chapters over a number of days/weeks?  Conduct discussions about ships, canon vs fanon, alternate universes, crossover, etc…

It’s an idea that is starting to take root.  We’ll see how far it goes…
